Mrs Broadbottom

Secretary and right hand woman to Mr Clunk.

I assist Mr Clunk in the office, answering the telephone, booking in jobs, helping to keep his blood pressure down and of course the most important job of all, making us endless cups of tea. I also assist the cranes with some of their personal needs e.g. Filling up Old Eric's hot water bottle, 'tickling up' 'Rockin' Rossie's quiff, making sure Little Toe's 'blankie' is kept clean and helping Freda decide which earrings to wear.

Big Mo insists,
'I don't have anything personal, that you need to attend to!' I also like to keep up to date with what's happening on Lower Often Industrial Estate, with daily visits to Barney and Lou at 'The Barm Pot' and popping round to see Renee at Power Services, once or twice a week.

Jethro

Crane fitter

Before I started work for Mr Clunk I worked at Lower Often Shop and Save, emptying boxes and stacking shelves. I know what people say, I'm not the brightest button in the box, but I'm good at taking things apart and putting them back together so, when Mr Clunk advertised for an apprentice fitter I applied and was over the moon when I got the job. Mr Clunk has taught me everything I know.

I'm proud to announce that I'm now a fully fledged fitter! I have my own sign written pickup, a workshop with a big pit, a large collection of tools and a variety of spares that I have sourced from the scrapyard. Mr Clunk also sends me round to help other companies on the Industrial Estate.

Likes: Taking things apart and putting them back together again, mooching round the scrapyard and being part of Mr Clunk's Crane Hire.

Dislikes: Anything academic, working inside.

Ambitions: To keep Mr Clunk's Cranes running and working in tip top condition.

Freda The Iron Fairy

History
Before I came to Mr Clunk's, I lived and worked inside a factory. Mr Clunk had lots of enquiries for an Iron Fairy, so when the factory closed, he moved in quickly (very seldom seen) and bought me.

Lifting Capacity: None of anyone's business!

Best Assets: Appearance apart, being able to pick and carry and work inside buildings.

Likes: My beauty routine- being the only girl crane in Mr Clunk's fleet, I feel it's important I look good.

Reading: I have a good selection of reading matter in my riggerbox e.g. Manuals, brochures, catalogues etc and I consult these if anyone has a problem, crane or otherwise.
Sleepovers with my friend Bertha, another Iron Fairy who is the yard crane at Power Services.

Dislikes: Big headed cranes, opinionated cranes, cranes with ideas above their station.

Big Mo

The biggest, strongest crane in Mr Clunk's fleet.

History: Before I came to Clunk's, I worked for a large crane hire company with cranes ranging from 25 to 200 tonnes. I was one of ten, 50 tonners. Business began to slow down, cranes were stood and the word going around was that some had to go. Mr Clunk, accompanied by Jethro, came to view all the cranes for sale and after close inspection and much deliberation a deal was struck and I was brought back to Lower Often.

Lifting Capacity: 50 ton.

Best Assets: Size and Strength.

Likes: Working out! I like to keep my muscles toned and my strength up by lifting weights, (I have my own set) and doing press-ups.
You don't get a super structure like this by napping and singing.

Dislikes: Snoring! Singer/songwriter pipedreams! Interfering Iron Fairies! Lorry Loaders!

Ambitions: I have big ambitions for Clunk Crane Hire! To be instrumental in helping it develop into a dynamic, crane hire company with an executive division, ME, doing lifts for the more professional client i.e. your judges, film directors and airline types.
It's going to take dynamite to get the rest of this lot 'dynamic'!

Old Eric

History
I was Mr Clunk's first crane. Before I came to Clunk's, I worked in a scrapyard where unfortunately, I wasn't well looked after. When my jib and outriggers refused to come out without squealing and juddering, I was replaced and left in a corner to rust away.

Mr Clunk bought me and gave me a new lease of life. He replaced my worn out parts, rubbed off the rust, gave me a new coat of paint, new tyres, fresh oil and water and so began Mr Clunk's Crane Hire Company. Now apart from a spot of trouble with my circulation and a touch of rheumatism that I do admit, can at times make me a little grumpy, I'm a very contented old crane.

Lifting Capacity:18 ton

Best Assets: There isn't many places I haven't been to, or lifts I haven't done.

Likes: Lie ins! Best not to book me too early in a morning, as I have a bit of trouble getting going and not too late, as I enjoy an afternoon nap and I do enjoy a nice hot water bottle. Anything light and local, I'm your crane.

Dislikes: Weather! I like to keep an eye on the weather. The other cranes think I'm a bit over the top with it, but I know from experience that a crane can never be too careful where weather is concerned, in particular wind. I have a problem with wind! Bit of a problem with cold too, for that matter. Not too keen on the heat either!
Oh and being jet washed.

Ambitions:None.

'Rockin' Rossie

History: I started my crane career in Scotland, erecting steel framed buildings, a very hard job with hundreds of lifts every day. To keep my spirits up I started singing and found that I was really quite good. The singing, along with my quiff, leather seats and medallion has earned me the nickname 'Rockin' Rossie.
Now I'm with Mr Clunk, I don't work nearly as hard but, I still like to sing.

Lifting Capacity: 25 ton

Best Assets: I'm hardworking and reliable.
I have a sensitive side. e.g. I'll always try and do the longer job, so Old Eric can get back to the yard for his afternoon nap.

Likes: Singing! Composing my own songs! Listening to music on my headphones when I settle down in my parking place at night. I like 'rock n roll', but I also like 'the blues'.

Dislikes: Big Mo and Freda's regular 'run ins'! It interferes with my creative thinking!

Ambitions: I have an inner conflict going on! I do enjoy being a crane but I also have dreams of being part of a band, with maybe even a hit song!

Little Toe

I used to live in a boatyard, lifting boats in and out of the water for painting or repairs and on and off transport. Then bigger boats started arriving and try as I might I just wasn't strong enough to lift them, so I was put up for sale. Fortunately for me, Mr Clunk was looking for a little city crane to join his fleet.

Lifting Capacity: 10 ton

Best Assets: Being small, I can get where the bigger cranes can't. If your lift is down an alleyway, up a drive, down a narrow lane or just little, then ask for me, Little Toe, I'm the crane for you.

I do worry about being small, that I'll never quite match up to the bigger cranes, but Mrs Broadbottom is always telling me, 'size isn't everything!'.

Likes:
Being part of a crane family, lifting, listening to Old Eric talk about the places he's been to and the lifts he's done, solving problems and my 'blankie'.

Dislikes: Charlie Chatter from 'Cranes 2 Go'! Old Eric says he's trying to get rid of us.
The dark.

Ambitions: I want to learn, work hard and become the best little crane I can.
